10 Tips to Sleep Tight and Rest Right đ¤
I think we can all unanimously agree that nothing beats a good nightâs sleep. Trust me, Iâve learned that the hard way after a few too many restless nights. When you think about it, sleep is sacredâitâs our bodyâs way of hitting pause and recharging for tomorrow. Plus, Iâm a firm believer that sleep sets the tone for your day. I mean â is your day off to a rough start because of whatâs ahead, or because you didnât get enough sleep? Either way, not getting enough quality sleep only makes what tomorrow brings a little more challenging. So might as well prepare for a good start, because how we end the day often sets the tone for the one that follows. Sleep is important for managing your healthâespecially for conditions like prediabetes and high cholesterol by regulating blood sugar levels, keeping your heart healthy, and elevating your mood, energy, and overall outlook. Whether your mind is racing or you just canât get comfy, a solid bedtime routine can work wonders. Itâs not just about how many hours you sleep â itâs about making those hours count.
Here are 10 tips that help me sleep like a baby, and hopefully, will help you make those hours count. These recommendations will help you create a soothing bedtime routine that lets you fall asleep faster and wake up feeling like your best self in no time.
Set a Bedtime Routine â Aim to go to bed at the same time each night to help your body naturally adjust and fall asleep faster.
Sip & Hydrate â Drink water throughout the day and keep a bottle by your bed (to avoid getting up in the middle of the night). Wind down with a calming, caffeine-free tea â my favorites are apple ginger (check out the recipe here), chamomile, peppermint, or SleepyTime tea.
Clean & Cozy Vibes â Clean up your space, switch out your sheets regularly, apply your favorite skincare, turn on some calming rain and thunder sounds on YouTube (if thatâs your vibe âI know itâs mine), and slip into cozy pajamas for the perfect wind-down.
Relax with Aromatherapy â Light a candle or turn on a diffuser with essential oils to create a relaxing atmosphere. I love Bath & Body Works Stress Relief (Eucalyptus + Spearmint) and Sleep (Lavender + Vanilla) collections.
Limit Screen Time â Avoid phones and intense media like scary movies, documentaries, or the news before bed. Your mind needs a break to wind down, and watching that media can keep your mind active and on edge. The last thing you need is your fight-or-flight going off before bed.
Donât Eat Right Before Bed â Donât eat 2-3 hours before bed to avoid indigestion and wake up feeling lighter, and more rested.
Try a Lymphatic Massage â Relax with a gentle massage using oils like Sweet Almond Oil or use a body brush to promote circulation and relieve tension.
Unwind with a Book or Journal â Get your thoughts out or lose yourself in a good book to help calm your mind before sleep.
Positive Self-Talk â End your day with kind words to yourself to help prevent overthinking and set yourself up for restful sleep.
Breathe and Let Go â Take a few deep breaths before bed to calm your mind and body. Deep breathing can lower stress and help you slip into a peaceful sleep. Sooner or later, youâll be dreaming away!
